About the position

The Technical Writer position is an integral part of the Human Capital Management (HCM) Security and Preparedness Sub-portfolio, specifically within the Veteran Affairs Centralized Adjudication and Background System 2.0 (VA-CABS 2.0) team. This role supports the US Department of Veterans Affairs under the Consolidated Corporate Support Services (CCSS) program. The VA-CABS 2.0 system is designed to provide a centralized case management system for adjudication tracking, which is essential for the Office of Operations, Security and Preparedness (OSP) and the Office of Personnel Suitability and Security (PSS). The Salesforce-based VA-CABS 2.0 tool is pivotal in managing the pre-appointment, suitability, and security clearance processes for various personnel including VA staff, contractors, affiliates, trainees, and volunteers. This application operates within the Salesforce Government Cloud Plus - Enterprise boundary and manages the full lifecycle of investigations, supporting Security Specialists in their adjudication processes. In this role, the Technical Writer will be responsible for creating a comprehensive set of turn-key documents for the VA-CABS 2.0 and its related areas. This includes documenting existing technical and operational processes, architecture, interfaces, policies, and procedures. The Technical Writer will also provide managerial oversight and assurance of requirements delivery, ensuring that all documentation meets the necessary standards and is delivered in a timely manner. The position requires a proactive approach to planning, developing, organizing, writing, and editing operational procedures, policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and manuals. Additionally, the Technical Writer will be tasked with researching, developing, and documenting technical design specifications specifically related to Salesforce, producing deliverable-ready documentation, and maintaining a continuity of style and content across all documents.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, write and edit operational procedures, policies, SOPs, and manuals.
  • Research, develop and document technical design specifications specifically related to Salesforce.
  • Produce deliverable-ready documentation.
  • Develop and maintain turn-key documentation for the project.
  • Analyze documents to maintain a continuity of style/content.
  • Manage updates and revisions to project documents.
  • Manage and maintain meeting documentation.

Requirements

  • Experience in documenting technical content, including specifications, product procedures, and user guides.
  • Expertise working within the Salesforce platform, familiarity with the technical components of Salesforce.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking.
  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years or more experience OR Master's degree and three (3) years or more experience.
  • Ability to obtain a VA Position of Public Trust - Medium Background Investigation (MBI).
  • Mastery in analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a positive attitude and outstanding interpersonal skills.
  • Strong work ethic and technical knowledge that sets the standard for other technical personnel on the program.
