About the position

The Senior Technical Writer at Perforce will be responsible for developing user information products and collateral to effectively communicate product features and usage to customers. This role involves collaborating with various teams, understanding complex software applications, and contributing to the overall information development strategies of the Knowledge Services team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop user information products and collateral to communicate product features and usage to customers.
  • Document new features and enhancements, and make updates to existing information.
  • Develop plans to meet project deadlines and coordinate publishing and distribution with product updates.
  • Respond to feedback from internal and external customers, assess their needs, and implement improvements.
  • Gain a solid understanding of the product through hands-on experience and participation in development meetings.
  • Work closely with product management, engineering, support, customer success, and professional services teams.
  • Review UX designs and provide input on text strings and messages in the product UI.
  • Assess user requirements and identify conceptual weaknesses in the product, suggesting improvements.
  • Help define information development strategies and work on strategic initiatives as part of the Knowledge Services team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of technical writing experience in a software development environment.
  • Degree in the arts/humanities, and/or college diploma in Technical/Professional Writing or equivalent.
  • Proven technical writing skills, including the development of technically complex user, installation, admin, and command line documentation.
  • Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex concepts for the audience.
  • Ability to learn complex software applications quickly and work under tight deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills with diverse teams across multiple time zones.
  • Experience with MadCap Flare preferred.
  • Experience with image editing software such as SnagIt.
  • Working knowledge of source control systems (Helix Core, Git, etc.).
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS.
  • Experience working with code samples.
  • Experience with an agile development process preferred.
  • Experience with bug tracking tools, such as Jira, preferred.
  • Experience with Confluence an asset.
  • Experience with collaborative UI design tools, such as Figma, an asset.
  • Knowledge of Linux and Windows administration tasks an asset.
  • Proactive, problem-solving attitude.
