About the position

The Technical Writer will work on a team providing technical writing support for an enterprise Electronic Records Management Services (RMS). This role is crucial in preparing and maintaining operations documentation, status reports, and other technical publications that are essential for the smooth functioning of the RMS. The Technical Writer will be responsible for managing the Jira project, which includes scheduling and coordinating with both the team and the customer regarding outages and other project updates. A successful candidate will be comfortable working in a collaborative team environment, engaging with vendors, and having frequent interactions with customers to ensure that all documentation meets their needs and expectations. In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Technical Writer will also be expected to familiarize themselves with the technologies used within the project, including AWS, Records Management Technology (Feith), Java, Oracle, Linux, Windows, JIRA, Confluence, SQL, and SQL Server. The role requires a strong understanding of Agile development methodologies and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements. Knowledge of ADA Section 508 requirements is also important, as the Technical Writer will have an interest in learning how to perform ADA Section 508 testing to ensure compliance with accessibility standards. This position is 100% onsite and not remote, emphasizing the need for the candidate to be present in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain operations documentation for the Electronic Records Management Services (RMS).
  • Create and update status reports and other technical publications.
  • Manage the Jira project, including scheduling and coordination with the team and customers.
  • Collaborate with vendors and interact frequently with customers to gather requirements and feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA Section 508 requirements and perform testing as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and 6 years of experience as a technical writer, or 10 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Proficient in MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with key technologies including AWS, Records Management Technology (Feith), Java, Oracle, Linux, Windows, JIRA, Confluence, SQL, and SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of ADA Section 508 requirements and interest in learning ADA Section 508 testing.
  • Experience as a technical writer on a team using Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) technology.
  • Proficient with the Atlassian Tool Suite including Jira and Confluence.
