About the position

The Maintenance Manual Author will create and revise maintenance documents including maintenance manuals, structural repair manuals, non-destructive testing manuals, tool & equipment manuals, and component maintenance manuals. This role involves using engineering database information, engineering drawings, functional tests, and other sources to provide customers with detailed aircraft continued airworthiness instructions. The author will also submit work packages to create illustrations that will accompany maintenance document instructions for use in technical publications. Quality checks of completed work packages for accuracy and consistency are essential, as well as following established procedures and improving them as necessary. Collaboration with core teams, engineers, and customer service representatives is required to validate maintenance document procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Create and revise maintenance documents such as maintenance manuals and structural repair manuals.
  • Use engineering database information and engineering drawings to provide detailed aircraft continued airworthiness instructions.
  • Submit work packages to create illustrations for maintenance document instructions.
  • Conduct self and peer quality checks of completed work packages for accuracy and consistency.
  • Follow established procedures and improve procedures as necessary.
  • Collaborate with core teams, engineers, and customer service representatives to validate maintenance document procedures.
  • Create and revise flight documents including Airplane Flight Manuals and Pilot’s Operating Handbooks.
  • Conduct self and peer quality checks of completed flight documents.
  • Research, analyze, and interpret engineering and technical source data.

Requirements

  • Degreed in an aviation related area preferred or equivalent experience authoring technical documents.
  • A&P license or military aviation maintenance experience with Technical Orders is a plus.
  • Understanding of engineering data and ability to research and analyze engineering drawings and technical documents.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience and knowledge of aircraft operation, aircraft systems, and maintenance practices.
  • Experience using SGML/XML, Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker or equivalent tool in authoring environment.
  • Professional and diplomatic demeanor with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pilot’s license.
  • Military aviation experience with Technical Orders.
