About the position

The Technical Writer at TechNix LLC is responsible for producing high-quality technical documentation that aids users in understanding and utilizing various products and services. This role encompasses a wide range of documentation types, including online help, manuals (system, end-user, training, and instruction), white papers, design specifications, project plans, test plans, business correspondence, and how-to guides. With the increasing demand for e-learning, the Technical Writer will also be tasked with creating online training materials tailored for diverse audiences. In this position, the Technical Writer will collaborate closely with project teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of the products and the specific documentation requirements. This includes analyzing existing documentation and identifying potential content needs. The writer will be responsible for researching, developing, writing, editing, and proofreading complex technical documents and supporting materials related to software, hardware, technical procedures, and computer-related services. The role requires the creation, maintenance, and updating of manuals, procedures, specifications, and other essential documents. The Technical Writer will also be expected to review and revise documents prepared by others, provide writing, editing, and design support to team members, and maintain the information architecture. Additionally, the writer will produce user-friendly interface text, online help, and developer guides, as well as manuals and tutorials to assist end-users in navigating various applications. The position is hybrid, requiring onsite presence for at least two days a week, with some travel expected for in-state trips.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality technical documentation that meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience.
  • Work with project teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the product and documentation requirements.
  • Analyze existing and potential documentation content.
  • Research, develop, write, edit, and proofread complex technical documentation and supporting material.
  • Create, maintain, and update manuals, procedures, specifications, and other documents.
  • Review, revise, modify, and edit documents prepared by others.
  • Provide writing, editing, and design support to team members.
  • Create and maintain the information architecture.
  • Write easy-to-understand user interface text, online help, and developer guides.
  • Create manuals and tutorials to help end-users use a variety of applications.
  • Compile and deliver software development documentation packages.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience performing IT technical writing.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with additional qualifying experience substitutable on a year-for-year basis.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Proven working experience in technical writing of software documentation.
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and visuals.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and software development processes.
  • Experience with computer scripting and illustration/graphic design.
  • Knowledge of information technology, including hardware and software.
