About the position

General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join the USCENTCOM CITS Program in Tampa, FL. This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a new program that supports the Central Command (CENTCOM), a long-time customer of GDIT. The selected candidate will be responsible for producing high-quality technical and contractual documentation that is essential for the program's success. The role requires a proactive individual who can develop, update, and maintain various types of technical documentation, including user guides, how-to materials, and staff packages. The Technical Writer will create deliverables for contractual purposes and assist in editing and professionalizing management and engineering documents, technical reports, and Quick Reference Guides (QRGs). In this role, the Technical Writer will document the results of cyber and hardware testing, ensuring that all technical information is organized and presented clearly and concisely for different audiences, including developers, end-users, and stakeholders. Adherence to established style guides and maintaining a consistent writing style across all materials is crucial. The Technical Writer will also collaborate with the training team to develop and update training materials and contribute to the maintenance of a document repository and knowledge management system. Additionally, the Technical Writer will support project managers in tracking documentation deliverables and ensuring timely completion of all tasks. This position requires a Bachelor's Degree and at least 5 years of experience in technical documentation or related fields. Candidates should have proven experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in a technology-focused environment, and possess strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently. Familiarity with USCENTCOM's mission and products is desired, along with ITIL 4 Foundation Certification or higher. The role may require less than 10% travel and requires active TS/SCI eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain technical documentation, user guides, and how-to materials for the CITS Enterprise.
  • Create staff packages and documentation including white papers, information papers, decision papers, point papers, PowerPoint presentations, and training packages.
  • Assist with editing and professionalizing management and engineering documents, technical reports, and Quick Reference Guides (QRGs).
  • Document the results of cyber and hardware testing and other technical reports.
  • Organize and present technical information clearly and concisely for various audiences.
  • Ensure documentation adheres to established style guides, standards, and templates.
  • Collaborate with the training team to develop and update training materials and tutorials.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a document repository and knowledge management system.
  • Support project managers in tracking documentation deliverables, milestones, and deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience in technical documentation, quality assurance, control, management, or IT service management.
  • Proven experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in a DevSecOps or similar technology-focused environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality documentation on time.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to explain complex technical concepts.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).

Nice-to-haves

  • ITIL 4 Foundation Certification or Higher.
  • Experience with USCENTCOM and familiarity with its mission.
  • Knowledge of USCENTCOM's products and services, customer requirements, and documentation structure.
