About the position

The scope of this project is to provide technical writing support for Client's nuclear business unit. The contract technical writer will be responsible for training requirements, procedure writing and revisions, and document finalization. The writer will complete training on Client's familiarization guide, undergo training on the procedure change process, and manage procedure change requests using Microsoft Word. They will prepare finalized documents by converting them to PDF and ensure proper posting and accessibility for reviewers and approvers.

Responsibilities

  • Review updates on ongoing projects, including comments or approvals from reviewers.
  • Initiate a New PCR by opening the assigned PCR in the Management of Change (MOC) system and reviewing the request details.
  • Retrieve the Word document, make necessary edits based on the markup and comments, and save the updated file in the work-in-progress folder.
  • Ensure all changes have been incorporated into the document, save the updated file in draft form, and convert it into a PDF.
  • Use procedural tools to identify required reviews for the revised document and assign reviews to appropriate individuals.
  • Monitor the progress of reviews in SAP and respond to inquiries from reviewers.
  • Collaborate with the operations writer or other experienced team members to identify the correct reviews for specific functional area documents.
  • Review the status of all ongoing PCRs, ensuring deadlines and procedural steps are on track.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years minimum - Procedure writer background.
  • Attention to Detail - Precision in reviewing, editing, and finalizing documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word - Advanced skills in editing, formatting, and document organization.
  • Prior experience managing documents through their lifecycle, including drafting, reviewing, revising, and finalizing.
  • Familiarity with document management processes and tools (e.g., SAP and SharePoint).
  • Strong Communication Skills - Ability to communicate procedural changes and requirements effectively.
  • Technical Writing Expertise - Proven experience as a technical writer, particularly in creating and managing detailed documentation.
  • Knowledge of industry's best practices and procedural standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Adobe for creating and editing PDFs.
  • Proofreading skills.
  • Ability to follow structured processes.
