About the position
The Telecommunications Technician I role at GDIT involves the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecommunication equipment. This entry-level position requires the technician to work under direct supervision, handling tasks such as running and splicing cables, installing routers and switches, and responding to emergency calls in case of system failures. The role is essential for ensuring the efficient operation of telecommunication systems within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Installs, removes, maintains, modifies, troubleshoots, and repairs telecommunication equipment.
- Runs, pulls, terminates, and splices cables; installs routers, switches, multiplexors, and cable trays.
- Provides reports and completes requests for new service.
- Determines methodology for installing telephone service or other telecommunication technology.
- Assists with responding to emergency calls in the event of a system failure.
- Makes minor precision adjustments on switches, relays, and other electrical control devices for maximum operating efficiency.
- Assists with verifying services by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifies, corrects, or escalates problems.
Requirements
- 0+ years of related experience in telecommunications or a similar field.
- Ability to perform general maintenance tasks.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to obtain a DBIDS Badge for access to Naval Bases, Naval Facilities, and private shipyards.
