About the position

The Washington and Lee University School of Law is seeking a tenure-track or tenured faculty member to direct a clinic focused on civil rights and racial justice. This position is integral to the law school's commitment to experiential legal education and aims to address pressing needs in racial justice through a client-centered approach. The ideal candidate will contribute to a collegial and intellectually vibrant community while fostering an inclusive educational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the Civil Rights and Racial Justice Clinic.
  • Develop and implement a clinical curriculum that prioritizes client-centered advocacy.
  • Supervise law students in their clinical work and provide mentorship.
  • Contribute to scholarly conversations regarding civil rights and racial justice.
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive educational environment.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or equivalent.
  • Several years of practice experience in civil rights and racial justice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive educational environments.
  • Experience in clinical pedagogy and excellence in teaching and supervision of law students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in developing in-house clinical programs.
  • Interest in traditional scholarship related to civil rights and racial justice.
