About The Position

The Test Engineer position at Actalent involves supporting a critical program at the US Naval Research Lab, focusing on the operation and diagnostics of plasma sources in various environments. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Engineering or related field.
• 3-6 years of experience in the propulsion space.
• An active Secret Clearance.
• An understanding of electrical propulsion and plasma test with propulsion systems.

Nice To Haves

• Operation, maintenance, and servicing of high vacuum systems.
• Software interfacing and control of experimental equipment (MATLAB, Python).
• Experience using fundamental RF and DC laboratory test equipment (signal generators, network analyzers, sourcemeters).

Responsibilities

• Mechanical design of multi-component assemblies for operation in challenging temperature and vacuum environments.
• Navigating decisions between outsourced rapid prototyping and in-house fabrication.
• Hands-on operation of plasma sources (both DC and RF), such as thermionic hollow cathodes, Hall Thrusters, ICP Sources, and DBDs.
• Practical electrical skills including safe operation of high voltage, high current power supplies.
• Experimental instrumentation and data acquisition design for experiments.
• Construction and operation of plasma diagnostics such as Langmuir probes.
