About the position

As a Title Insurance Underwriter at First American, you will play a crucial role in providing underwriting support and expertise to our company personnel, agents, and customers regarding the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies. In this role, you will utilize established underwriting standards and guidelines within your delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance. You will also provide guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations related to real estate title insurance. Your expertise will be essential in issuing underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes, contributing to the overall success of our agency division. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with various stakeholders, acting decisively in underwriting decisions, and maintaining a detail-oriented approach to your work. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, will be vital as you interact with agents and customers, providing them with the necessary support and counsel. You will also need strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks effectively and prioritize your workload to meet deadlines. Your ability to negotiate and think abstractly will be key in finding creative solutions to complex underwriting challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Provides underwriting support, counsel, and authorization to company personnel, agents, and customers related to the issuance of real estate title insurance commitments and policies.
  • Utilizes underwriting standards and guidelines within delegated authority limits to underwrite the issuance of title insurance.
  • Provides guidance to company personnel in the performance of real estate settlement services.
  • Issues underwriting standards and guidelines in accordance with established company processes.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of real estate title and settlement process.
  • General knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to real estate title insurance and settlement services.
  • General understanding of underwriting real estate transactions for the issuance of title insurance policies.
  • Ability to collaborate and act decisively.
  • Detail oriented with excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and timely follow up.
  • Strong negotiation skills and requires abstract thinking and creative solutions.
  • High School Diploma Required.
  • 5-7 years' experience as a Title Officer or related responsibilities.
  • Must be familiar with real estate law.
