About the position

The Manager I - Manager of Security Operations & Support Programs at the Texas Juvenile Justice Department is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of security and support programs within a high-security juvenile correctional facility. This role involves managing staff, ensuring compliance with regulations, and implementing treatment programs aimed at the rehabilitation of youth. The manager will work closely with facility administrators and other stakeholders to promote a safe and effective environment for both staff and residents.

Responsibilities

  • Administer daily operations and activities of security operations and support programs.
  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work of staff involved in security operations.
  • Monitor and evaluate program activities to ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and review management and operational reports, including serious incident reports.
  • Collaborate with facility administrators to establish goals and develop guidelines and procedures.
  • Provide oversight, leadership, and training to assigned staff.
  • Promote understanding of treatment goals and coach staff on achieving these objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with TJJD policies and PREA standards.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary team meetings and represent security operations at various forums.
  • Assist in preparing and evaluating budget requests.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or High School diploma with extensive experience.
  • Five years of full-time wage earning experience in a related field, including supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with juveniles or adults in a residential setting or treatment program.
  • Knowledge of public administration principles and practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and manage multiple tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or related fields.
  • Experience providing services for juveniles in a correctional program.
