About The Position

The Memphis School of Excellence is seeking a TN Certified ESL Teacher to provide effective instruction and support to students in a full-time, contract position. The role involves developing assessments, advising parents, collaborating with staff, and managing student behavior to create a safe and productive learning environment. The teacher will also participate in professional development and utilize technology in the classroom to enhance student learning.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate.
• Must be highly qualified as per state regulations.
• Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the Tennessee Board of Education.
• Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.

Nice To Haves

• Experience as an Adult Basic & Literacy Educator (1 year preferred).
• Experience in adult education (1 year preferred).

Responsibilities

• Administers and develops subject specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
• Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations and reinforce classroom goals.
• Assesses student progress towards standards and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
• Counsels students to improve performance, health status, and problem-solving techniques.
• Demonstrates and differentiates methods required to perform classroom assignments to address individual student requirements.
• Instructs students to improve their success in academics through a defined course of study.
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors students in various educational environments to ensure safety and positivity.
• Participates in meetings and professional development activities to convey and gather information.
• Prepares written materials to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Reports incidents to maintain student safety and adhere to state law and board policies.
• Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
• Directs teacher assistants and volunteers to provide an effective classroom program.
• Supports other classroom teachers in implementing established curriculum and individual student plans.
• Models the integration of technology in all curriculum areas.
• Follows a plan for professional technology development and seeks opportunities for professional growth.
