Tooling & Die Design Principal Engineer

About the position

Honda is looking for a Tooling & Die Design Principal Engineer to lead the development of engineering solutions and deliver early planning and engineering solutions with agility and cost competitiveness across Product, Process, and Tooling to improve North American manufacturing characteristics. The role involves handling multiple projects simultaneously and overseeing the development of other engineers. The position is based in Raymond, OH, and offers a hybrid workstyle.

Responsibilities

• Lead advance New Model Bumper and Instrument Panel product feasibility from styling sketch through 1st drawing issue.
• Create part data proposals, Tool (Mold) process plan specification, and rough layout.
• Report technical criteria to Category Technical Expert and New Model Project Leadership.
• Lead Manufacturing Plastic New Model Tool verification checklist requirements and drawing maturation across N.A. DEBQ functions.
• Conceive and lead the development of New Model Plastic Tool specifications/process plan from 1st drawing to Die GO.
• Provide direct technical guidance and oversight to downstream customers to ensure successful design and production deliverables are met.
• Monitor Design Change through drawing maturation.
• Act as Body Frame Plastic Tooling Technical expert across all Honda Automotive factories.
• Teach expertise to Team and support cross-functional collaboration across HDMA Business Units.
• Prepare and present presentations on specific technical challenges driving value-added engineering solutions.
• Lead complex manufacturing category problem analysis, determine root causes, recommend corrective action, and consult on SAP in the New Model development.
• Lead Team activity through SAP and milestone achievements and report results to Business Unit Management.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical or Industrial) or equivalent related experience
• 8+ years or equivalent of Engineering experience
• Expert knowledge of Equipment/Tool New Model
• Expert knowledge of Automotive Production facilities
• Problem-solving analysis and breakdown to root cause
• Expert knowledge of Honda New Model development and Manufacturing
• Expert of Automotive plastic injection processes
• Supervisory experience with the ability to lead/manage a diverse workforce.
