About the position

The Toolroom Tech position at Samuel Pressure Vessel Group involves assisting in the fabrication and machining of specialty vessels and components. This role requires collaboration with manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance teams to reverse engineer and fabricate components for existing pressure vessels or production equipment. The technician will also be responsible for processing weld test plates or raw material test specimens for destructive testing as directed by quality assurance, welding engineering, or design engineering personnel. Additionally, the role includes performing repairs on production vessels within applicable code guidelines, maintaining tooling used in production processes, and ensuring proper documentation related to fixtures or tooling developed in conjunction with the engineering department. The technician will support engineering and production personnel with inquiries related to machining techniques, thread types, and fixturing options, and will perform general machining operations using both manual and CNC equipment. Material handling, including the operation of cranes and hoists, is also a key responsibility, along with completing any necessary training or safety programs related to this equipment. Responsibilities

  • Assist manufacturing with the fabrication and machining of specialty vessels or components.
  • Perform tasks of production for the CNC department when needed.
  • Work closely with Engineering and Maintenance personnel to reverse engineer and fabricate components for existing pressure vessels or production equipment.
  • Process weld test plates or raw material test specimens for destructive testing as directed by quality assurance, welding engineering, or design engineering personnel.
  • Perform repairs on production vessels within applicable code guidelines as required.
  • Maintain any tooling used in production processes.
  • Maintain documentation related to any fixtures or tooling developed in conjunction with the engineering department; ensure revision control of fixtures to match fabrication drawings.
  • Support engineering and production personnel with questions relating to machining techniques, thread types, fixturing options, and similar areas of expertise.
  • Perform general machining operations with both manual and CNC equipment.
  • Handle materials and operate cranes and hoists.

Requirements

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment to meet team expectations.
  • Understanding and support of Company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to understand and abide by all safety rules and regulations to perform the job.
  • Basic understanding of computers.
  • Reading, writing, and general fabrication math skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • High School diploma or at least 1 year working experience in an industrial-based environment and/or technical diploma.
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient operation of machining equipment, both manual and CNC.
  • Basic GMAW welding skills (ability to qualify as an ASME code welder preferred).
