About the position

The TOSA - Social Emotional Learning Specialist at Adams 12 Five Star Schools is a pivotal role designed to enhance student growth in social-emotional competencies and foster a positive school climate. This position requires collaboration with school administration to assess, develop, and implement initiatives that promote social-emotional wellness across the school. The specialist will work closely with classroom teachers and support staff to build instructional capacity in social-emotional learning (SEL), ensuring that all students receive the support they need to thrive. In this role, the Social Emotional Learning Specialist will lead the planning and delivery of SEL competency instruction, providing side-by-side coaching to teachers, particularly new educators, to create inclusive and respectful classrooms. The specialist will analyze school-wide and student data to design effective interventions and support SEL competencies. Professional learning opportunities will be provided for adult learners, promoting reflective thinking and professional conversations that enhance teacher effectiveness. The position also involves ongoing professional development to stay updated on best practices in social-emotional learning, enabling the specialist to train schools in these practices effectively. The role is essential in building a continuum of social/emotional services that support all students, ensuring that the school environment is conducive to learning and personal growth.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with administration, mental health providers, counselors, and teachers to support the implementation of the social emotional learning framework.
  • Build and implement a continuum of social/emotional services to support all students, including direct intervention support.
  • Lead the planning and delivery of SEL competency instruction in the school.
  • Provide side-by-side coaching to teachers and staff, especially new teachers, to create safe and inclusive classrooms.
  • Review school-wide and assessment data to assist in designing school-wide interventions and support for SEL competencies.
  • Provide professional learning content for adult learners.
  • Demonstrate and maintain productive interpersonal skills.
  • Promote professional conversation and reflective thinking to impact teacher effectiveness.
  • Apply facilitation skills to support adult learners' development.
  • Engage in continuous learning with evidence-based best practices in social emotional learning.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or Education preferred.
  • Three to five years of experience working in education preferred.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in planning and leading effective adult learning.
  • Ability to structure own time and manage multiple perspectives.
  • Experience in leadership, understanding of system implementation and change management.
  • Training in trauma-informed practices and/or restorative practices and experience teaching a social emotional curriculum.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with data analysis related to social emotional learning.
  • Familiarity with various social emotional learning programs and frameworks.
