About the position

Astellas Pharma Inc. is seeking a strategic leader to join our Transformation Office, based in Northbrook, Illinois. This role is pivotal in partnering with one or more CxOs and their Chief of Staff to identify and scope transformation opportunities that align with our Corporate Strategic Plan (CSP) goals. The successful candidate will lead strategic initiatives on behalf of the CxO, deploying transformation capabilities from the Transformation Office to ensure the successful execution of these initiatives. As part of the Transformation Office leadership team, this individual will define and evolve the development of critical transformation capabilities necessary for Astellas' transformation agenda. In this role, you will shape the transformation strategy and roadmap for the CxO function, identifying and scoping opportunities that contribute to our CSP goals. You will lead the most strategic initiatives, managing all resources involved, including both personnel and budget. Building a coalition of key stakeholders and sponsors will be essential to deliver these initiatives effectively. You will also coordinate with other transformation initiatives to ensure alignment and deliver on initiative targets, proactively flagging any deviations before they occur. As a leader within the Transformation Office, you will contribute to the development and execution of the Transformation Office strategy, providing leadership and people management to a group of team members aligned to a capability group or geographic area. Your role will be critical in achieving significant contributions to our CSP performance goals, supporting CxOs in achieving operational cost savings and revenue increases. This position requires a strong understanding of both the strategic context of Astellas and the operational challenges of executing strategy effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with one or more CxOs and Chief of Staff to shape their transformation strategy and roadmap
  • Identify and scope transformation opportunities that contribute to the delivery of our CSP goals
  • Lead the most strategic initiatives on behalf of CxO Function or enterprise-wide as needed
  • Lead and manage all resources involved in the strategic initiatives, including people and non-payroll budget
  • Identify and build a coalition of key stakeholders and sponsors to help deliver strategic initiatives
  • Coordinate with other transformation initiatives to ensure alignment
  • Deliver to initiative targets and flag deviations prior to them occurring
  • Lead the development and building of one or more transformation capabilities
  • Contribute to the Transformation Office strategy development and execution
  • Provide leadership and people management to a group of Transformation Office team members aligned to a Capability group or geographic area
  • Work in accordance with Transformation Office standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred
  • 15+ years of transformational leadership experience with a proven track record of leading transformational change initiatives within complex organizations
  • Equivalent experience of a Consulting Partner of a management consulting organization
  • Good sense of both the strategic context for Astellas as well as the operational challenges of executing strategy well
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and deliver results within specified timelines and budgets
  • Strong change management skills, with a consistent past delivery of varied types of projects in relevant areas of the business
  • Ability to recognize complex situations and use multiple formal and informal methods to find solutions
  • Networking and influencing skills to drive change in senior and mid-level leaders
  • Ability to present complex issues to top management and contribute to discussions to drive decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation
  • Proven experience in driving change and managing resistance within an organization
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to a rapidly changing business environment
