About the position

The Transportation Dispatch Supervisor at James River Petroleum is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the company's drivers and dispatch team. This high-energy role involves coordinating communication between multiple departments, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with industry regulations. The supervisor will also be involved in performance management, driver training, and maintaining operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Manage drivers in all markets and handle reward/discipline based on compliance and Company standards
  • Build and create driver's routes using Smartank and Insight 360 to deliver best customer service
  • Enter orders to be scheduled using Smartank
  • Forecast, monitor and manage the operations of drivers and dispatch
  • Develop and maintain driver work schedule based on workload demands and manage vacation requests
  • Conduct performance reviews and ride-along assessments of all Company drivers
  • Collaborate with HR to recruit, hire, train, motivate, retain drivers and operations personnel
  • Responsible for new driver training according to Company training manual and policies
  • Collaborate with Safety Manager to conduct regular safety and truck maintenance inspections
  • Oversee inventory of all assets to include trucks, trailers and EZ pass
  • Accountable for accuracy and timely reports of International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA)
  • Frequent market visits to support supply, staffing and equipment needs
  • Participate as member of safety committee to include planning and execution of safety related issues
  • Review weekly driver payroll and driver expense reports
  • Respond and report all accidents involving driver or company equipment timely and according to Company procedures
  • Monitor fuel cards and internal fuel system management
  • Support new account set up and barcoding
  • Develop guidelines for driver communication
  • Responsible for attaining all agreed upon monthly/quarterly goals and coordinating initiative programs
  • Support and back up Director of Operations as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years logistics management experience, college degree or equivalent experience and education
  • Superior communicator and relationship builder across all levels of management
  • Strong leader who is effective and thrives in fast-paced, constantly changing and highly dynamic market environment
  • Available nights and weekends to problem-solve real-time supply disruptions
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products, able to effectively use spreadsheets for management reporting and analysis
  • Analytical problem-solving skills, results oriented
  • Process- and detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills
