Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS.
  • 6 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer III.
  • 7 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer IV.
  • 8 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience for Transportation Engineer V.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within six months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Bentley / MicroStation Open Roads Designer (ORD) CAD software.
  • Knowledge of TxDOT Roadway Design Criteria.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and makes recommendations for developing, monitoring, and updating integrated project plans and schedules.
  • Performs advanced and complex planning work such as plan review, calculations, and transportation planning studies.
  • Conducts data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.
  • Acts as a consultant to supervisors of special maintenance crews.
  • Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway maintenance contracts.
  • Assists with design, computer operations, and plan preparation.
  • Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.
  • Drives/travels to project/work locations for on-site engineering reviews and technical support.
  • Reviews, coordinates, monitors, and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
