About the position

The Transportation Security Manager at the Department of Homeland Security plays a crucial role in safeguarding the American way of life by securing transportation systems, including airports, seaports, and public transit. This position involves managing screening checkpoints, ensuring the safety of the traveling public, and coordinating crisis management protocols. The role requires a balance between customer service and security, while also overseeing the performance and development of subordinate staff.

Responsibilities

  • Manage screening checkpoints to protect the traveling public by preventing dangerous objects from being transported onto aircraft.
  • Recognize and recommend corrections for improper use of equipment, providing guidance to subordinates.
  • Support the collection of performance metrics to identify areas for process improvement.
  • Coordinate national and local crisis management and incident response protocols.
  • Understand and balance the customer service needs of the traveling public with safety and security.
  • Work cooperatively with airport stakeholders to further TSA's mission.
  • Monitor individual performance and provide communication to promote screener development.
  • Serve as a first line supervisor, assigning work, setting priorities, and reviewing performance of subordinates.

Requirements

  • Must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National.
  • Obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screening and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must be available to work various shifts and overtime as needed.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to SV-G or GS-11 in Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in aviation security, corporate security, or force protection.
  • Knowledge of crisis management protocols.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
