About the position

The Traveling Commissioning Field Engineer at Bala Consulting Engineers is responsible for performing hands-on testing and providing technical oversight of electrical systems at client sites across the U.S. This role involves working on various projects, including data centers and high-rise infrastructure, ensuring the successful commissioning and quality assurance of electrical equipment and power distribution systems. The engineer will also manage projects, mentor team members, and coordinate with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform commissioning and/or QA/QC hands-on testing of electrical equipment.
  • Manage Commissioning and Testing Projects, including client interactions and project financials.
  • Lead projects and write proposals, test scripts, and reports.
  • Mentor and train other Commissioning team members.
  • Coordinate invoicing with the Accounting Department.
  • Attend conferences and networking events periodically.
  • Travel nationally as necessary to complete Commissioning & Testing activities at client sites.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience as a commissioning engineer.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar qualification.
  • Military background in electrical systems operation and repair is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel across the U.S. for extended periods to support project schedules.
  • Proficient technical writing skills for proposals, test scripts, and reports.
  • EIT/PE/CPMP certification is a plus.
  • Experience with SKM Power System Software (i.e., Short Circuit Studies) is a plus.
  • Ability to work in both office and client site environments.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to pass a 5-year background check and drug screening.

Nice-to-haves

  • Thermography Scanning Certification is a plus.
  • Hardworking and well-motivated with a desire to learn and solve problems.
