About the position

FM Global is a leading property insurer of the world's largest businesses, providing more than one-third of FORTUNE 1000-size companies with engineering-based risk management and property insurance solutions. The FM Global Renewables Unit is seeking a Senior Renewable Energy Construction Underwriter to join our international team servicing a global book of renewable energy clients. This role is critical in understanding exposures and risk transfer strategies unique to photovoltaic solar, onshore wind, and battery energy storage system construction projects. The Underwriter will leverage their curiosity and leadership skills to optimally underwrite a profitable renewable energy construction portfolio while supporting client and company loss prevention and risk transfer objectives. This opportunity is available at any of our FM Global locations. The Senior Renewable Energy Construction Underwriter will perform construction underwriting and insurance servicing activities on existing and prospective accounts with large projects in the renewable energy space. This includes line setting, leading reinsurance needs and placement, rating and pricing, terms and conditions, value analysis, certificates of insurance, preparation of quotations, and assisting in proposal development. The Underwriter will also provide underwriting assistance and mentorship to Account Managers in handling smaller construction projects, as needed, and will be responsible for crafting and managing relationships with key clients, brokers, and internal customers. Staying abreast of renewable energy and insurance market trends, including competitor offerings and profitability, is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform construction underwriting and insurance servicing activities on existing and prospective accounts with large projects in the renewable energy space, focusing on photovoltaic solar, onshore wind, and battery energy storage systems.
  • Line setting, leading reinsurance needs and placement, rating and pricing, terms and conditions, value analysis, certificates of insurance, preparation of quotations, and assisting in proposal development.
  • Provide underwriting assistance and mentorship to Account Managers in handling smaller construction projects, as needed.
  • Provide construction underwriting expertise and guidance to the renewable energy team and broader organization.
  • Recommend new or modified guidance when warranted.
  • Collaborate with the Renewable Underwriting Manager and Staff Underwriting on developing and expanding renewable construction underwriting strategy, interpersonal development, and coaching.
  • Craft and manage relationships with key clients, brokers, and internal customers.
  • Leverage external and internal relationships to understand clients' exposures, operating strategies and business goals, ensuring mutually agreed project plans meet long-term loss prevention, underwriting, and risk transfer goals.
  • Stay abreast of renewable energy and insurance market trends, including competitor offerings, strengths and weaknesses, profitability, and emerging trends.
  • Learn and demonstrate internal systems, applications, procedures, and authority levels.
  • Maintain complete and up-to-date documentation of decision-making and key documents within internal systems as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Renewable Energy and Construction underwriting experience, preferably in the US marketplace.
  • Maintains and develops market knowledge, including competitor profiles and products.
  • Curious and driven to learn about new technologies, market practices, and trends.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, digital literacy, and attention to detail are required.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Interpersonal Skills, Relationships, Account Management, Business Communications, Exposure Analysis, Negotiations, Presentation Skills, Program Structure and line setting, Planning and organizing, Policy Terms and conditions, Profitability Analysis and pricing, and Underwriting Guidelines.
