About the position

Everest Insurance, a member of the Everest Re Group, Ltd., is seeking an Underwriter to join our Middle Market Property team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a leading global reinsurance and insurance provider that has been operating for nearly 50 years. The selected candidate will work in a hybrid capacity, spending three days in the office and two days working remotely. The Underwriter will be responsible for developing a profitable book of business within the designated underwriting territory for Everest Middle Market Property, reporting directly to the Head of Retail Property. This role is crucial in implementing a growth plan for the region while enhancing brand awareness for Everest. The Underwriter will engage in building and underwriting a diverse and profitable book of business, which involves developing and maintaining productive working relationships with appointed brokers. The candidate will also be tasked with developing, implementing, and controlling pricing and risk selection standards that align with strategic objectives and achieve desired financial goals. Collaboration with various departments, including Actuarial, Claims, Loss Control, Operations, Finance, and Information Technology, will be essential to ensure a comprehensive approach to underwriting. Additionally, the Underwriter will need to maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies, as well as the overall insurance marketplace, to make informed decisions that support the company's objectives. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of a profitable book of business within the designated underwriting territory for Everest Middle Market Property.
  • Implement a growth plan for the region while creating brand awareness for Everest.
  • Build and underwrite a diverse and profitable book of business.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with appointed brokers.
  • Develop, implement, and control pricing and risk selection standards that support strategic objectives and achieve desired financial goals.
  • Collaborate effectively with Actuarial, Claims, Loss Control, Operations, Finance, and Information Technology.
  • Maintain awareness of competitor capabilities and strategies, as well as the overall insurance marketplace.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business or related field, with insurance designations a plus.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant, commercial property underwriting experience, with demonstrated skills to support leadership with strategies to support a profitable portfolio.
  • Self-motivated and independent while maintaining underwriting discipline to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching and development skills.
  • Ability to assess risk inherent exposures and natural hazards.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
