About the position

Acrisure is seeking an Underwriter for Occupational Accident within the Wholesale division, located in Brentwood, TN. This full-time position plays a critical role in determining the insurability, rates, prices, quotes, and coverage recommendations for risks specific to the transportation industry. The Underwriter will work closely with producers and insurance company underwriters to evaluate applicants' risks, select appropriate coverages, and determine pricing that ensures overall book profitability and sustainability. The role requires adherence to all state insurance and insurance company guidelines, as well as compliance with underwriting protocols set forth by GTU. The Underwriter will review applications for coverage, including Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs), financial statements, loss runs, equipment data, FMCSA data, safety programs, and contracts. They will compare applications and supporting documentation with insurance company models and underwriting guidelines to assess whether an applicant is an acceptable risk. The Underwriter will also assist producers with inquiries regarding applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the insurance company. Analyzing account-specific characteristics, evaluating loss potential, and developing pricing for acceptable risks are key responsibilities of this role. In addition to quoting new and renewal policies, the Underwriter will maintain accurate and consistent files within agency management systems, assist in audits, and develop effective working relationships with producers and insurance companies. Providing timely and professional customer service is essential, as is keeping management informed about day-to-day operations and projects. The Underwriter will also mentor Underwriting Assistants and Associate Underwriters, demonstrating knowledge of GTU's mission, vision, and ethical standards. The role may involve meeting with prospects and producers for training and business development purposes.

Responsibilities

  • Determine insurability, rates, prices, quotes, and recommend coverage for risks specific to the transportation industry.
  • Review applications for coverage, MVRs, financial statements, loss runs, equipment, FMCSA data, safety programs, and contracts.
  • Compare applications and supporting documentation with insurance company models and underwriting guidelines to assess risk.
  • Assist producers with comments or questions about applications and likelihood of acceptance by the insurance company.
  • Analyze account specific characteristics and evaluate loss potential due to claims severity and frequency.
  • Decline risks that cannot be equitably priced or do not fit insurance company parameters.
  • Develop pricing for acceptable risks within authority limits and obtain appropriate authority as needed.
  • Utilize knowledge of agency management systems and insurance company rating models to quote new and renewal policies.
  • Prepare quotes and answer questions for producers while meeting timeliness and accuracy standards.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent files and data within agency management and information systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of and response to GTU and insurance company audits.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with producers, insurance companies, GTU staff, and management.
  • Provide timely and professional customer service to producers.
  • Keep management informed on the status of day-to-day operations and other projects as assigned.
  • Investigate and analyze problems and recommend appropriate courses of action to management.
  • Mentor Underwriting Assistants and Associate Underwriters.
  • Provide backup to other underwriters when out of the office or when work volume dictates.
  • Drive acceptable levels of new business opportunities through effective marketing to assigned agents.
  • Effectively communicate with assigned agents to ensure understanding of company direction.

Requirements

  • Expert analytical skills and ability to handle complex tasks in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • College Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, or Accounting, or equivalent work experience in Truck and Independent Contractor Insurance Underwriting.
  • Current License in Property & Casualty is a plus.
  • Current License in Accident & Health is a plus.
  • Experience in Policy or Customer Service, Rating or Underwriting within a Commercial Property & Casualty Agency.
  • Experience with a Managing General Agency or Commercial Lines Broker is a plus.
  • Designations such as CPCU, ARM, CIW, or CIC are a plus.
  • Prior experience with an Agency Management System is preferred.
