About the position

The Underwriter position at NSM Insurance Group, LLC, specifically within the Care Providers Insurance Services (CPS) division, is a pivotal role that focuses on providing insurance solutions tailored for nonprofits and social services organizations. With over 25 years of experience, CPS has established itself as a leader in the insurance market, catering to a diverse clientele that includes churches, private and charter schools, and community action agencies. The Underwriter will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing the relationships with agents in the Property & Casualty (P&C) marketplace, ensuring that the needs of these organizations are met with precision and care. In this hybrid role, the Underwriter will be expected to work 2-3 days onsite, allowing for a blend of collaborative in-person interactions and flexible remote work. The responsibilities include generating, underwriting, and analyzing accounts, which involves a thorough risk selection process. The Underwriter will communicate regularly with brokers to facilitate new and renewal business, providing multiple quotes and negotiating terms that align with the company's standards and the clients' needs. This position requires a strong focus on documentation, as maintaining a detailed underwriting file is essential for compliance and operational efficiency. Additionally, the Underwriter will monitor claims activity and report findings, working closely with leadership to negotiate and manage larger accounts. The role demands excellent organizational skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, where effective communication and relationship-building with brokers and carriers are paramount. The Underwriter will also be responsible for preparing referrals to supervisors, ensuring that all underwriting decisions are well-supported and documented. Responsibilities

  • Generate, underwrite, and analyze accounts.
  • Risk selection by qualifying leads and identifying target market.
  • Communicate with brokers for new and renewal business.
  • Price and issue multiple quotes with selected markets.
  • Develop and maintain strong broker relationships, including offsite visits/meetings/etc.
  • Thorough documentation of underwriting file.
  • Monitor claims activity and reporting.
  • Work closely with leadership in negotiation and handling of larger accounts.
  • Prepare thorough and succinct referral(s) to supervisor or company.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 2 - 5 years of commercial property & casualty underwriting experience.
  • Prior experience in the social services/non-profit sector, preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferred.
  • Ability to develop and foster carrier and broker relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Aptitude to negotiate, influence and close deals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • P&C license required, or to be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
