About the position

The primary responsibility of an Underwriter at OneMain Financial is to analyze, negotiate, and make decisions on loan requests submitted by various loan originating sources. This role requires the Underwriter to make prudent credit decisions within established approval guidelines, ensuring compliance with all state and federal laws as well as OneMain's policies and procedures. The Underwriter must possess the capability to analyze credit factors affecting loan risk, appraisals, and loan yields effectively. In this position, effective communication and collaboration with both OneMain and external resources are essential. The Underwriter will recommend terms and conditions of loan decisions while leveraging risk versus reward to ensure credit quality and profitability. This role demands a high level of integrity and the ability to deal with ambiguity, as well as being an independent thinker with solid learning agility. Attention to detail and a results-driven mindset are crucial for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze loan requests from multiple originating sources.
  • Make credit decisions within established approval guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal laws and OneMain policies.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders regarding loan terms and conditions.
  • Evaluate credit factors affecting loan risk, appraisals, and loan yields.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in Direct Lending or Non-Prime Lending is preferred.
  • Excellent customer communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity while maintaining a high level of integrity.
  • Independent thinker with solid learning agility.
  • Detail-oriented and driven to produce results.
