About the position

As an Underwriter at BerkleyNet, you will play a crucial role in applying your practical knowledge to make informed risk-bearing decisions on behalf of the company. This position is integral to our mission of providing a workers compensation insurance experience that is 'Ridiculously Fast. Amazingly Easy.' You will collaborate closely with team leads and managers to execute underwriting activities that align with and support the company's overarching underwriting strategy. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of underwriting operations tasks, where you will identify and implement solutions that uphold our brand promise of delivering exceptional customer experiences. In this role, you will be tasked with reviewing and evaluating new and renewal workers compensation accounts to determine the approval or denial of risks. You will effectively determine premium rates in alignment with our new business and retention plan goals. Managing your daily responsibilities and competing priorities will be essential, as you will be accountable for delivering results that meet the company's expectations. Additionally, you will engage in data analysis to drive results and improve efficiencies and quality in our processes and product offerings. You will generate and present data metric-driven solutions to underwriting business problems, identifying issues and thoroughly vetting the scope of each issue to determine an appropriate action plan for resolution. Leading or participating in cross-functional project teams will be a key aspect of your role, and you will regularly communicate the progress of project work to both the department and company leadership teams. Partnering with department leadership will also be vital as you focus on resource development and allocation for various projects, assisting leadership in the department's planning and budgeting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate new and renewal workers compensation accounts to determine approval or denial of risks
  • Effectively determine premium rate in alignment with our new business and retention plan goals
  • Manage daily responsibilities and competing priorities to be accountable for delivering results
  • Complete data analysis to drive results and improve efficiencies and quality in processes and product offerings
  • Generate and present data metric driven solutions to underwriting business problems
  • Identify issues and thoroughly vet the scope of the issue to determine action plan for resolution
  • Lead or participate in cross-functional project teams
  • Regularly communicate progress of project work to the department and company leadership team
  • Partner with department leadership to focus on resource development and allocation for various projects
  • Assist leadership where needed in department planning and budgeting process

Requirements

  • 1 - 3 years of experience in the insurance industry preferred
  • Workers' compensation background preferred
  • Ability to make decisions incorporating diverse perspectives
  • Excellent prioritization, planning and organization skills
  • Strong customer orientation including strong interpersonal, communication and consultation skills
  • Ability to manage and influence in a cross-functional matrix environment
  • Strong discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills coupled with a strategic and 'big picture' mindset
  • Proven record of setting delivery commitments and meeting expectations
  • Bachelor's degree
  • CPCU, ARM, or other relevant insurance designation preferred but not required
