About the position

The Underwriter I at Kinetic Advantage plays a crucial role in the review and decision-making process for dealership commercial loan requests, specifically those up to $750,000. This position is integral to ensuring that all applications adhere to internal lending guidelines while also managing modifications to existing loans in a timely manner. The Underwriter I is expected to maintain a service-oriented approach, primarily interacting with internal Dealer Relationship Managers and Business Development Specialists, as well as dealership owners or their staff. Additionally, there will be significant collaboration with the internal Contract Department team to facilitate smooth operations and effective communication throughout the loan process. In this role, the Underwriter I will be responsible for reviewing and making decisions on indirect applications submitted by auto dealerships for commercial lines of credit. This involves interpreting internal lending guidelines and making informed decisions based on the information provided. The Underwriter will also engage in discussions and negotiations with Dealer Relationship Managers to arrive at loan decisions, ensuring that all parties are aligned and informed throughout the process. The position requires proactive communication, including outbound calls and emails, to clarify details and expedite the decision-making process. Meeting and exceeding daily, weekly, and monthly goals for application decision volume is a key performance indicator for this role. The Underwriter I must develop and maintain effective relationships with Dealer Relationship Managers, Dealer Development Specialists, and Contract Specialists to ensure that applications are thoroughly verified and compliant with company underwriting guidelines. Furthermore, the Underwriter will be expected to answer credit-related questions and provide education to minimize pending applications, thereby achieving volume goals efficiently. This position may also involve other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the underwriting team.

Responsibilities

  • Review and decision indirect applications submitted by auto dealerships for a commercial line of credit based on interpretation of internal lending guidelines
  • Discuss, negotiate, & make determinations on loan decisions with Dealer Relationship Managers
  • Perform outbound phone calls or emails while reviewing and decisioning applications
  • Consistently meet and exceed applicable daily/weekly/monthly goals for application decision volume
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with the Dealer Relationship Managers, Dealer Development Specialists, and Contract Specialists, to ensure applications are verified and meet company underwriting guidelines
  • Ability to answer credit questions and educate others to minimize pending applications/requests, and achieve volume goals
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent work experience
  • Prior experience in the auto industry, sub-prime or consumer/commercial finance preferred
  • Effective communication skills, verbally and in writing, to develop and maintain strong business relationships
  • Strong knowledge of financial collateral requirements and credit profiles
  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing, fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, evenings, and/or Saturdays
  • Possess strong business acumen
