About the position

Sompo International is seeking an Underwriting Technician to join our Commercial Specialty Property team, which focuses on providing property coverage to commercial accounts, particularly midsize to large domestic and U.S. domiciled multinational companies. This role is pivotal in supporting our underwriters by assisting with various underwriting tasks, ensuring that we deliver superior risk solutions backed by Sompo's exceptional financial strength. The position can be based in one of our offices located in Chicago, IL, New York, NY, Alpharetta, GA, or San Francisco, CA. As an Underwriting Technician, you will be responsible for assisting underwriters with reviewing submissions, rating accounts, drafting quotes, binders, policies, and endorsements. You will also initiate, complete, and send quote letters to brokers, perform underwriting analysis, complete risk reports, and prepare all policies in accordance with final binders, which includes review by underwriting staff. Your role will involve coding, billing, registering, processing, and distributing insurance invoices, binders, policies, and endorsements within the processing standards established by leadership. Additionally, you will provide support for file audits by maintaining files and conducting file reviews, as well as quality assurance and quality control as needed. You will be expected to respond to calls and emails promptly, ensuring all communications are addressed within 24 hours of receipt. The position also requires providing backup support to other Underwriting Technicians as necessary and performing other special projects as assigned. This role is essential in maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of our underwriting operations, contributing to the overall success of the team and the company.

Responsibilities

  • Assist underwriters with reviewing submissions and rating accounts.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of underwriting support experience.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas to drive business.
  • Technical capabilities such as Microsoft Office Suite, NitroPro, and ImageRight.
  • Ability to learn and understand industry-specific terminology and coverages.
  • Ability to identify problems, provide solutions, and multi-task while demonstrating attention to detail.
