About the position

The Union Data Center Technician is responsible for the installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment. This role requires delivering sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes, with a focus on continuous improvement. The technician will provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders and is expected to exhibit quality workmanship while maintaining cleanliness in the Data Center. Adherence to production, safety, and quality standards, as well as industry best practices, is essential. Collaboration with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles is also a key responsibility. The technician must be able to read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation, demonstrating a broad understanding of Data Center infrastructure technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Installation/decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure in a Data Center environment.
  • Deliver sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.
  • Provide structured feedback on project progress to stakeholders.
  • Exhibit quality workmanship and maintain Data Center cleanliness.
  • Follow all production, safety, and quality standards, codes, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders to remove project obstacles.
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation.
  • Maintain orderly paperwork and run service jobs.
  • Install ladder racking and seismic bracing above and under raised floor.
  • Conduct service swaps of live networking devices.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and use of basic telecom hand tools.
  • Understanding of customer service.
  • Clear understanding of job safety requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand floor plans.
  • Familiarity with wiring schemes and wiring testing.
  • Ability to pull all types of low voltage cable.
  • Capability in performing field terminations and labeling.
  • Basic understanding of both copper and fiber cable testing and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to operate DSX 5000 tester/OTDR Tester.
  • Ability to program testers and download test results to Linkware/Linkware Live.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with fusion splicing including Ribbon/Single OSP/ISP.
  • Ability to create mass labels and apply per Portmap.
  • Understanding of the 'FIM' database and operation of scanners.
