About the position

The Unit Clerk at Lakeshore Meadows plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation nursing station, serving as a communication hub for families, nurses, and allied health professionals. This full-time position requires the individual to manage communications effectively through various channels such as phone, email, and fax. The Unit Clerk is responsible for assisting patients and their families in scheduling follow-up outpatient appointments and arranging transportation to and from these appointments. Maintaining an organized and tidy nursing station is also a key responsibility, ensuring that the environment is conducive to patient care and staff efficiency. In addition to communication duties, the Unit Clerk is tasked with several administrative responsibilities. This includes answering telephone calls, relaying messages, and documenting information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. The role requires maintaining a schedule of patient appointments and transportation, processing laboratory and x-ray requests, and ensuring that all necessary reports are received in a timely manner. The Unit Clerk also manages the inventory of office supplies and is responsible for scanning appropriate documents upon patient discharge. The ideal candidate for this position will possess a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate strong organizational skills. They must be capable of maintaining a professional appearance and be comfortable working with various departments and vendors. The role requires proficiency in using a calculator and computer, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Physical demands include the ability to stand or walk for extended periods, perform fine motor skills, and lift or carry items as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage communication at the rehab nursing station with families, nurses, and allied health individuals via phone, email, or fax.
  • Assist patients and families in setting up follow-up outpatient appointments and transportation arrangements.
  • Maintain an organized and tidy nursing station throughout the day.
  • Answer telephone calls and relay messages appropriately.
  • Document information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR), including order entry and vital signs.
  • Maintain a schedule of patients' appointments and assist with transportation arrangements as needed.
  • Process laboratory, x-ray, and special test requests, ensuring reports are received.
  • Maintain inventory of paper and desk supplies.
  • Ensure appropriate documents are scanned upon patient discharge.
