About the position

As a Unit Secretary in the Orthopedic Surgery department at Rochester General Hospital, you will play a crucial role in supporting the nursing unit by managing communications, processes, and supplies. You will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks that are essential for the daily functioning of the unit, including answering phone calls, providing administrative support to nurses and physicians, and managing the flow of information within the department. Your role will also involve maintaining inventory and supply levels, which is vital for patient care and operational efficiency. In addition to administrative duties, you will be involved in patient care activities. This includes performing daily rounds to check on patients, updating whiteboards with pertinent information, and ensuring that all safety measures are adhered to. You will respond to patient calls for service, demonstrating your commitment to providing excellent care and support. Documentation is another key aspect of your role, as you will be responsible for ensuring that all patient care documentation is concise, pertinent, and complete, which is essential for maintaining high standards of care and compliance with healthcare regulations. This position requires exceptional documentation skills, excellent communication abilities, and strong organizational skills. You will need to be proficient in using PC and office software programs to effectively manage the administrative tasks associated with the role. Responsibilities

  • Answer telephone calls and route them appropriately.
  • Provide administrative support for nurses and physicians.
  • Sort and distribute mail; create work orders and HELPSTAR tickets.
  • Report any unit requirements to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain inventory and supply levels for the unit.
  • Perform daily rounding of patients on the unit.
  • Update whiteboards and ensure all safety measures are in place.
  • Respond to patient calls for service as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of patient arrivals and discharges on the unit.
  • Ensure concise, pertinent, and complete patient care documentation.
