The Unit Secretary in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Akron Children's Hospital plays a crucial role in supporting nursing personnel by assisting in the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating activities within the nursing station. This position involves performing various clerical and receptionist duties, ensuring that the physical environment of the area is maintained to a high standard. The Unit Secretary will work part-time, totaling 24 hours per week, with variable shifts that primarily include evenings during the week and morning shifts on weekends. The schedule includes every other weekend and holiday rotation, making flexibility essential for this role. In this position, the Unit Secretary will be responsible for record organization and transcription of orders, which includes completing necessary forms and requisitions. They will compile, prepare, copy, and maintain various records at the nursing station, including the assembly of patient charts. The role requires effective communication and interaction with various departments within the hospital and outside agencies to ensure the coordination of services and care for patients and their families. Additionally, the Unit Secretary will maintain the physical environment of the nursing station, order office supplies, and enter help desk tickets for information systems and maintenance needs. Responding to and prioritizing inquiries from patients and families in a professional manner is a key responsibility, as is coordinating interpreter services when necessary. Staff may also be temporarily assigned to different areas throughout Akron Children's Hospital based on patient needs, requiring similar knowledge and skills. Other duties may be assigned as required, making adaptability and a willingness to assist in various capacities important traits for this role.
