About the position

The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force Investigator position is a critical role within the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, specifically assigned to the Violent Fugitive Task Force. This position involves coordinating federal and local resources for criminal investigations and warrant reduction operations, focusing on tracking and apprehending violent fugitives. The investigator will work closely with law enforcement partners and manage a caseload of absconders, ensuring public safety and effective community supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Work with law enforcement partners to track, locate, and apprehend violent fugitives.
  • Conduct research using US Marshal Services databases, and perform surveillance, interviews, and interrogations of offenders.
  • Develop investigations through the use of confidential informants.
  • Supervise a caseload of Community Supervision absconders convicted of violent crimes.
  • Provide security for highly publicized court appearances.
  • Develop intelligence regarding threat groups to share with management and the Special Operations Intelligence Unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, correctional services, psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience as a Probation/Parole Officer or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Documented knowledge of Community Supervision processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Community Supervision field operations and the judicial legal system of NC.
  • Proficient in using federal and other databases to track information.
  • Ability to fulfill rigorous physical duties, including foot pursuits and building entry into potentially hostile environments.
  • Ability to maintain required certifications for full-time employment as a certified officer with Community Supervision.
  • Ability to pass a federal background investigation for federal law enforcement positions.
