About the position

Granite City Electric Supply is seeking a Utility Construction - Supply Chain Specialist to enhance the success of our Underground business. This role is pivotal in providing our customers with top-notch support and quality products. The Supply Chain Specialist will be responsible for the development and execution of the end-to-end Underground business strategy, ensuring that our operations align with market demands and customer needs. Reporting to the Sr. Supply Chain Manager, this position will involve managing daily purchasing requirements for assigned buylines, which includes demand analysis, order placement, and order point management. The specialist will work closely with vendors to review new product releases and revisions, ensuring that stocked SKUs meet market requirements. Collaboration with suppliers, sales, and pricing teams is essential to develop and implement competitive selling strategies. This may involve branch visits or face-to-face meetings to review products and performance metrics. Additionally, the specialist will partner with marketing to identify item promotion potential and structure promotions effectively. A solid understanding of essential commodity trends, including industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, material lead times, and technical/manufacturing processes, is crucial. The role also requires optimizing inventory levels at distribution centers and branches based on market needs and financial returns. The specialist will negotiate cost savings through purchase discounts and other cost reductions, track these savings, and report them as needed. Furthermore, the specialist will create reports to measure performance and identify potential issues, while also becoming a subject matter expert on Utility Construction products such as PVC, handholes, turtles, underground vaults, fittings, and accessories.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily purchasing requirements for assigned buylines either directly or with support team members.
  • Conduct demand analysis, order placement, and order point management.
  • Work closely with vendors to review new product releases and revisions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, sales, and pricing teams to develop and implement competitive selling strategies.
  • Conduct branch visits or face-to-face meetings to review products and performance metrics.
  • Partner with marketing to identify item promotion potential and structure promotions.
  • Maintain knowledge of essential commodity trends, including industry trends and cost drivers.
  • Optimize inventory levels at distribution centers and branches based on market needs.
  • Negotiate cost savings through purchase discounts and other cost reductions.
  • Track savings and report as requested.
  • Negotiate annual rebate programs as directed.
  • Create reports to measure performance and identify potential problems.
  • Coordinate overall Supply Chain Strategy with team members on unassigned suppliers or product lines.
  • Become a subject matter expert on Utility Construction products.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Management, or Supply Chain Management.
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in Purchasing / Supply Chain/Sales Management, preferably in a multi-location distribution environment.
  • 1-2 years of Project Management or Supply Chain experience within a Utility Construction company.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and financial skills.
  • Hands-on role requiring willingness and ability to be both the strategist and tactician.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced organization.
  • Proven influencing, planning, and prioritizing skills.
  • High degree of organizational skills and self-starter attitude.
  • Experience with ERP demand planning and procurement tools preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Utility Construction industry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
