About The Position

The Utility Maintenance Supervisor, Senior (Water Production) is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of water and wastewater systems within the City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities. This role involves scheduling and coordinating work for multiple teams, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and managing administrative tasks such as report preparation and budget development. The supervisor will also conduct safety training and inspections, handle emergency response coordination, and maintain communication with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency with additional training beyond high school.
  • More than four years of experience as a maintenance repair supervisor.
  • More than two years of experience as a maintenance repair crew leader (preferred).
  • More than five years of experience in overhaul and maintenance of industrial plant mechanical equipment (preferred).
  • At least two years of experience in the administration of Computer Maintenance Management Programs (preferred).
  • Valid commercial driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule, coordinate, and assign work to supervisors, crew leaders, technicians, and equipment operators.
  • Conduct daily inspections of worksites for OSHA compliance and safety training.
  • Prepare reports, evaluations, timesheets, and budgets related to maintenance activities.
  • Generate and assign work orders, ensuring adherence to City policies and regulations.
  • Review and supervise projects from initiation to completion, inspecting work quality and safety standards.
  • Perform emergency and standby work coordination, assigning essential personnel during emergencies.
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment, meeting with customers to make decisions on repairs and safety regulations.
  • Control inventory and procure supplies while following purchasing guidelines.
  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget by assisting with cost estimates and specifications.
