About The Position

The Utility Technician I is an entry-level position within the Public Works team of the Town of Windsor, responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the town's utility systems, including water distribution and wastewater collection. This role requires participation in snow and ice removal operations during the winter season, with a rotating schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. The technician will operate various equipment and assist in service maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety practices and town policies.

Requirements

• Entry-level position with a willingness to learn and perform various tasks.

• Basic knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation of utility system pipelines, including wastewater collection and water distribution.
• Conduct water service renewals, service turn on/offs, and repair valves and pipeline connections.
• Operate and maintain equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, and high-pressure jet cleaners.
• Perform preventive maintenance on utility systems, including lift station pumps and water pump stations.
• Assist with routine and compliance samples required by the State Health Department and the EPA.
• Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding utility services.
• Assist with the coordination of outside contractors for maintenance and repair work.
• Complete monthly meter readings for utility billing and assist with water disconnects for non-payment.
• Participate in snow operation tasks, including plowing and applying deicers to streets.
• Perform utility locates for water, sewer, and other town-owned systems.
