About the position

ACRT Pacific is currently seeking energetic entry-level professionals for the role of Vegetation Management Inspector (VMI) in Chico, CA. This full-time position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors and are looking to gain experience in the field of Forestry. The VMI will be responsible for patrolling utility lines to identify hazard trees, performing inspections, and evaluating trees and brush. This role is contingent upon client approval and involves working closely with tree clearance crews, clients, and property owners to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The VMI will conduct circuit patrols in accordance with the annual Vegetation Management (VM) plan and standards. Responsibilities include identifying required tree work, documenting inspections, notifying property owners of upcoming work, and obtaining necessary authorizations. The VMI will also support emergency response efforts, perform work verification inspections, and act as a liaison between various stakeholders involved in vegetation management projects. This position requires proficiency in electronic documentation and the ability to work independently while adhering to safety protocols. As a safety-sensitive role, the VMI must be prepared to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather, utilizing various forestry-related equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of local tree species, growth rates, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop skills in forestry and vegetation management while contributing to the safety and reliability of utility services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform circuit patrols in accordance with the annual VM plan and standards.
  • Identify required tree work along existing PG&E rights-of-way and prescribe necessary actions.
  • Document inspections and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Notify property owners/agencies of upcoming tree work and obtain necessary authorizations.
  • Act as the VM contact for new business and reconstruction work requested by the energy delivery organization.
  • Perform work verification inspections to verify completion and quality of tree work.
  • Investigate and document tree-related outages and attend outage meetings as needed.
  • Track and field check assigned VM tags, notifying customers of non-routine locations.
  • Support emergency response efforts as directed by OEC or level one operations.
  • Complete tasks assigned by the supervisor independently.
  • Oversee vegetation projects, including tree assessment and trimming operations.
  • Participate in contractor safety and tailboard meetings.
  • Act as a customer relations representative on behalf of PG&E.
  • Coordinate between contractors, communities, agencies, and PG&E workgroups to ensure project success.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, including permits and environmental protection measures.
  • Complete electronic and paper-based documentation and reporting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Must maintain a Class C driver's license.
  • One year of related arboricultural experience, OR ISA Certified Arborist, OR a 2-year or 4-year college degree in a related field.
  • Must reside within 50 miles of Chico or Oroville, CA.
  • Ability to identify local trees and knowledge of growth rates.
  • Ability to learn and use company-specific software systems.
  • Ability to work in rugged terrain and inclement weather.
  • Ability to read and follow maps.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with forestry-related equipment such as clinometers and range finders.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards in vegetation management.

Benefits

  • Base compensation of $39.27 - $41.70 per hour DOE.
  • In lieu of benefits amount of $9.82 - $10.42 per hour for eligible hours worked.
  • $50.00 daily subsistence payment for each day worked in excess of 4 hours.
