About the position

The Veterinary Technician Radiology position at Colorado Animal Specialty and Emergency involves providing specialized radiology services for animals, including managing imaging studies and assisting in various procedures. The role requires proficiency in operating radiology equipment, patient care, and maintaining a clean and organized work environment. The technician will work closely with veterinarians to ensure accurate imaging and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Check radiology email for any images to upload to PACS and other necessary information for the day.
  • Upload images to PACS from CD, DICOM file, or JPEG & burn images to a disc.
  • Clip and restrain patients for ultrasound examinations.
  • Assist in radiograph positioning (thoracic, abdominal, and advanced orthopedics).
  • Maintain cleanliness and inventory of the Radiology Ultrasound room.
  • Comfortably set up for fine needle aspirates.
  • Adequately enter patient information into the ultrasound machine.
  • Email links for images to the primary veterinarian or the owner.
  • Submit imaging studies to IDEXX for review and check IDEXX charges.
  • Retrieve imaging reports from the IDEXX server and attach those to a patient record in Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Create medical notes (imaging report) for the radiologist from the imaging requests.
  • Administer and monitor sedation and basic general anesthesia for ultrasounds, radiographs, or CT procedures.
  • Take orthopedic radiographs in all skeletal areas competently.
  • Review patient records and charts for biosecurity and special needs/handling risks.
  • Operate CT machinery proficiently.
  • Assist with Radiation Therapy setup for CT procedures.
  • Perform MRI studies.

Requirements

  • Veterinary Technician Certification
  • 1 year of veterinary experience
  • Mid-level IV insertion skills
  • Proficiency in DICOM
  • Animal restraint skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with fine needle aspirates
  • Experience in radiation therapy setup
