About the position

The Vice President for Finance & Chief Financial Officer (VP for Finance & CFO) at Eastern Kentucky University plays a pivotal role in the financial leadership of the institution. This position is responsible for the coordination and management of the university's budgets, treasury functions, student accounting services, and ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements. The VP for Finance & CFO serves as a key financial liaison to both internal constituencies and external agencies, facilitating effective communication and collaboration across various departments and stakeholders. This role is essential in guiding the university's financial strategy and ensuring the sustainability of its financial resources. In addition to overseeing the annual operating and auxiliary budgets, the VP for Finance & CFO will lead a team of financial professionals, providing mentorship and direction to ensure high standards of financial management and reporting. The position requires a strong understanding of state and federal funding agencies, strategic planning, and budgeting processes. The VP for Finance & CFO will also support the efficient operations of the Office of the President and contribute to the overall mission of the university by promoting fiscal responsibility and transparency. The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Business or a related field, along with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience, including a history of progressive supervisory experience. A CPA certification is preferred, and experience in a higher education environment is highly desirable. The VP for Finance & CFO will be expected to demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring that the financial operations align with the university's strategic goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination and management of the annual operating and auxiliary budgets, treasury function, student services, tax compliance, etc.
  • Serves as the financial liaison to internal constituencies and external agencies.
  • Supports the efficient and effective operations of the Office of the President and the University at large.

Requirements

  • Master of Business or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct management experience over a team of financial professionals.
  • A minimum of five years of related work experience, knowledge of state and federal funding agencies, strategic planning, and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated history of effective communications with internal and external stakeholders.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a higher education environment.
  • CPA preferred.
