About the position

The Vice President of Seneca Inland Marine at Crum & Forster is a pivotal role that requires a self-starter with extensive experience in Inland Marine underwriting and operations. This position is responsible for overseeing a national team of underwriters, managing account referrals, and marketing to key producers. The Vice President will play a crucial role in driving profitability and resolving conflicts within the division. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the integration of actuarial and claims processes to assess the profitability of the insurance division. This role demands strong leadership skills, as the Vice President will lead and develop a team of underwriters, ensuring they are equipped to meet the company's strategic goals. In this position, the Vice President will collaborate with senior management to develop and execute a business plan aimed at achieving profitable growth. They will proactively manage and monitor key metrics to ensure that set goals are met. The role also involves handling the referral process for the profit center, managing risks within their authority, and referring those outside of it to senior management. Building and maintaining producer relationships is essential, as is identifying and pursuing new business opportunities within the scope of Inland Marine and related property lines. The Vice President will also participate in training initiatives to enhance their knowledge base and may engage in various projects as needed. The position is based in various locations including Jersey, New York, or Illinois, with hybrid work options available. The role requires travel of up to 33%.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a business plan in collaboration with senior management to attain profitable growth in line with the company's overall strategy.
  • Proactively manage and monitor results and key metrics to achieve set goals.
  • Lead and manage a team of underwriters, coaching and developing the staff.
  • Manage the performance management process for this profit center.
  • Handle the referral process for this profit center, managing risks within authority and referring risks outside of authority to senior management as appropriate.
  • Develop and manage producer relationships.
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities within scope.
  • Participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base.
  • May participate in projects.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of professional experience in the insurance industry, both internally and externally for insurance companies.
  • Broad experience in Inland Marine underwriting.
  • Established national broker relationships within Inland Marine/Property lines.
  • Strong leadership skills and a self-starter attitude.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Proven team player with a drive to succeed.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to develop new business relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications.
  • College degree or equivalent required; preferably in risk management, engineering, or hard science.
  • CPCU and/or other insurance designations highly desired.
