About the position

The Vira I Heinz (VIH) Program Assistant Director is a pivotal role within the University of Pittsburgh, responsible for overseeing the Alumni Network of the VIH Program. This position entails managing a variety of responsibilities that include the mentorship program, designing and executing in-person events, and managing social media outlets to enhance engagement and deepen relationships among cohorts. The Assistant Director will provide holistic and developmental advising specifically tailored for underrepresented, first-time women and gender minority travelers, ensuring they receive the support needed to thrive in their experiences. Additionally, the incumbent will oversee the execution of the VIH Community Engagement Experiences (CEE) at the 14 VIH institutions, collaborating closely with the VIH Director and Campus Coordinators to facilitate various components of the program, including advising, marketing, and interview processes. In this role, the Assistant Director will also assist with administrative tasks such as managing paperwork through PantherExpress and Concur. The position requires flexibility, as some evening and weekend hours are necessary, and local and regional travel is expected to be up to 30 percent of the time. The work environment is hybrid, allowing for two remote days per week, which provides a balance between on-campus responsibilities and remote work flexibility. The Assistant Director will perform all administrative and operational functions of the VIH program, coordinating events and personnel while providing direct services to customers. This includes developing and implementing program policies and procedures, managing the program budget, and overseeing media communications, website updates, and newsletters. The role is essential in ensuring the smooth operation of the program and in promoting its activities effectively to the community.
