About the position

The Visitor and Research Experience Associate is a part-time role focused on providing exceptional service to patrons at The New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. This position involves managing visitor flow, promoting library resources, and ensuring a conducive research environment for all users. The Associate plays a key role in enhancing the visitor experience through proactive engagement and support.

Responsibilities

• Projects a positive and courteous attitude and provides exceptional public service and assistance to researchers and general public visitors to NYPL.
• Promotes Library resources and programs with a focus on highlighting NYPL exhibitions, Visitor Center, and tours.
• Conducts visitor check-in at exhibitions.
• Works with colleagues to ensure the Bill Blass Public Catalog Room and Rose Main Reading Room maintain an environment conducive to research and public services.
• Provides information about essential library services and materials.
• Provides queue management as necessary.
• Stocks, distributes, and troubleshoots essential visitor materials including but not limited to maps, exhibition brochures, and audio guides.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma required.
• Experience in a visitor-facing role at a major cultural institution preferred.
• Experience working with large, diverse teams preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting complex service situations.
• Ability to speak foreign languages preferred.
• Superb interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
• Demonstrated reliability and professionalism.
• Ability to maintain a positive customer service demeanor.
