About the position

The Visual Content Creator at Virginia Tech's College of Architecture, Arts, and Design is responsible for producing, shooting, and editing video and photo content that showcases the college's activities. This role involves collaborating with the communications team to create engaging visual stories for various audiences, including students, alumni, and industry partners. The position requires a creative individual who can manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality content that aligns with the college's branding and storytelling needs.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and develop storytelling ideas for video and photo content.
• Produce, shoot, and edit video and photo assignments for various platforms.
• Collaborate with the communications team and other stakeholders on projects.
• Create news-style and recruitment/marketing videos for the college's website and social media.
• Capture photographs for print and digital publications, student recruitment, and event coverage.
• Edit, organize, and curate video and photo assets for various purposes.
• Advise on best practices for visual content production across the college.
• Repurpose content for different platforms and audiences.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in video or film production, photography, visual communications, journalism, new media, fine arts, or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrated experience in digital videography and photography, including professional techniques and standards.
• Experience in creative video storytelling across various mediums.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluency in using Canon DSLRs for shooting images and video.
• Portfolio showcasing knowledge of photography, videography, and editing.

Nice-to-haves

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
• Experience with video hosting platforms like YouTube and Kaltura.
• Familiarity with popular social media platforms.
• Knowledge of Virginia Tech or higher education settings.
