About the position

The ASU Outreach Hub is a nonprofit organization that supports the outreach and transactional needs of the ASU public enterprise through marketing and engagement solutions that advance the university and strengthen its brand. It specializes in paid media outreach, data-driven insights and outreach to alumni, donors and targeted corporations. With a focus on high-impact visual identities, integrated cross-platform campaigns, scalable visual materials and user-centric web designs, the Visual Designer creates innovative and integrated visual solutions for all electronic and traditional marketing channels in support of resource-raising initiatives and action-driving outreach that directly benefit Arizona State University.

Responsibilities

  • Consults and ideates with team members and partners to deliver effective communication and design solutions that are visually captivating, effective, and leading the market.
  • Assesses usability, marketability, and success of design solutions; adjusts designs based on feedback.
  • Develops ideas, concepts and campaigns as guided by a creative brief; translates partner needs, end-user needs and technical requirements into designs that are visually enticing, easy to use/read and emotionally engaging.
  • From concept to production, creates all forms of marketing materials including but not limited to: Print: postcards, booklets, brochures, magazines, posters, signs, fliers, etc. Digital: emails, social media, presentations, web advertisements, websites Concept: logos and branding 3-D: displays, signage and apparel, novelty items.
  • Researches, gathers, illustrates, designs, and produces visual content for projects as needed.
  • Champions the brand; works collaboratively with other team members and the Director, Art to ensure a consistent, integrated brand perception and user-experience.
  • Manages jobs in progress, procures bids for work product, resolves technical issues, and proofs materials to ensure quality and deadlines are met; tracks projects and time in project management system.
  • Assists with the day-to-day support and development of student staff/interns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to work creatively and follow detailed instructions when required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Adobe CS: InDesign, Illustrator, XD, Photoshop, Acrobat; project management systems and MS Office.
  • Evidence of excellent communication and demonstrated organizational skills, collaboration focused, attention to detail, and high degree of openness to new approaches and new ideas.
  • Ability to interpret input, feedback, and markups.
  • Ability to prepare files for production with a high degree of accuracy and with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of visual design principles.
  • Strong creative and critical thinking skills.
  • Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible.
  • Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans.
  • Ability to work creatively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to foundation and university business and confidential prospect information.
  • Strong and collegial interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design/Visual Communications or related field.
  • Two (2) years of progressive design experience in a design studio, ad agency, public relations firm, or in-house marketing team including: Familiarity with large-format publications, multi-platform campaigns, brand development and environmental graphics.
  • Managing multiple jobs simultaneously, working effectively and efficiently with individuals and teams.
  • Managing and prioritizing multiple tasks and deadlines, and working collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
  • Photo shoot direction, selection and image manipulation, lifestyle photography and styling.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
