About The Position

The Woodshop Class Vocational Instructor at Clifford Academy is responsible for designing and implementing vocational curriculum tailored for special needs students. The role emphasizes wood-based projects, although some knowledge of automotive/small engine skills is a plus. The instructor will work within a small group setting, focusing on enhancing students' learning experiences and promoting their academic and social development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 years of field experience, or 10 years of field experience without a degree.
  • Previous experience working in education or with special needs children is highly desirable.
  • Certificate in woodworking/carpentry preferred; CAD experience is desirable.
  • Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in teaching vocational skills to special needs students.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and behavioral management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement vocational educational programs including curriculum and specific lesson plans.
  • Research and collect vocational resource materials, providing individualized career instruction to students.
  • Implement behavioral management programs within the classroom, maintaining knowledge of behavior management principles.
  • Participate in crisis intervention and teach social and emotional skills to students.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to discuss student progress and receive guidance.
  • Maintain communication with families regarding the vocational program and assist in implementing activities.
  • Prepare reports, documentation, and maintain a safe and orderly classroom environment.
