About the position
The VP, Controllership - General Accounting Controller is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the accounting processes related to loans, acquisitions, credit losses, and various financial reporting functions. This position ensures compliance with SOX controls, manages a global team, and drives strategic initiatives to enhance accounting operations. The role requires a strong focus on process improvement, talent management, and collaboration with senior management.
Responsibilities
- Lead the financial close and transactional accounting processes.
- Ensure proper execution of SOX internal controls over financial reporting.
- Identify and evaluate process improvements across the accounting function, including automation.
- Support strategic finance initiatives through research, presentations, and analysis.
- Manage talent functions including performance evaluations and coaching for team members.
- Oversee accounting for loan receivables and allowance for credit losses.
- Ensure compliance with Regulation W procedures and maintain effective internal controls.
- Oversee retail deposits accounting and drive simplification and automation efforts.
- Manage general accounting for funding, fixed assets, intangibles, and prepaid assets.
- Provide controllership oversight for Synchrony's Cash accounting process activities.
- Perform special projects and additional duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related Business area.
- 10+ years of accounting/finance experience or 15 years equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
- 3 years in a role with process/quality improvement experience.
