About the position

The VP, Philanthropic Giving is responsible for leading KERA's Philanthropic Giving Program, especially through Major Giving and Planned Giving. This includes developing new strategies for cultivating and growing prospective donors for both programs, as well as bringing new ideas for engagement and stewardship of current donors and developing a holistic giving pipeline of donors moving between membership, mid-level, major giving, and planned giving. This role will share responsibility for the achievement of department revenue goals and inform the operational and administrative activities of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 3-5 people responsible for an annual revenue goal of $4 million+.
  • Develop and implement overall growth strategy for major giving across individual donors, bequests and planned giving, and grants and foundations.
  • Establish connections and relationships in the community as the lead and point person for major giving.
  • Maintain oversight of moves management of major donors and prospects among the team.
  • Engage and cultivate board of directors and other volunteer leadership involvement and relationships.
  • Research, implement, and manage strategies to improve operations, acquire new donors and retain and grow existing donors through the donor pipeline.
  • Deliver timely and engaging donor benefits and thank you gift items.
  • Manage the oversight and strategic planning of all philanthropic giving teams.
  • Ensure new and existing donors are assigned to appropriate portfolios and that stewardship plans for each are in place.
  • Manage a principal gifts portfolio of 75-100 qualified donors with the capacity to give $100K+.
  • Partner with Events team on Major Donor Events or other events with Major Donor activation.
  • Create series of Major Donor communications and stewardship activities informed by KPIs, best practices, and KERA's strategic areas of focus.

Requirements

  • 5+ years leading a team of development officers.
  • Substantial experience managing a portfolio of donors and/or an overall cohort of donors among a team totaling several million dollars a year.
  • Proven ability to think strategically about fundraising in the non-profit space.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including personal accountability, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and ability to build consensus with and without authority.
  • Ability to manage time wisely, responding to tight deadlines and changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Resiliency to stay calm and focused during periods of high activity/competing priorities.
  • Effectively use complex databases or other CRM software.
  • Passionate and enthusiastic about public media fundraising and serving a broad North Texas audience.
  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed during special fundraising campaigns and events.
  • Strong command of Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office software.

  • Media or broadcasting experience.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish and/or other languages common in Texas.
  • An understanding of the North Texas philanthropic community.
  • Strong Tessitura experience.
