About The Position

The Weighting & Inspection Inspector role at Ward Trucking is focused on providing excellent customer service by accurately reviewing freight class and weight information related to customer bills of lading. The inspector ensures that the correct class and weight are applied to these bills, contributing to the overall efficiency of the operations.

Requirements

• Basic knowledge of the transportation industry.
• Basic understanding of the classification of freight.
• Familiarity with computers.
• Good analytical and mathematical skills.
• Ability to correctly complete all required paperwork.
• Ability to read and write, complete company and governmental forms, and understand written company policies and government regulations.
• Safe and appropriate use of a forklift.
• Physical ability to walk around the dock and in trailers on slippery and wet surfaces, and to move freight with or without aid of freight handling equipment.
• Ability to bend, twist, climb, and move about in small spaces, and to lift and reach for objects.
• Perform work in a safe and efficient manner, including walking and checking freight on the dock and inside the trailer.
• Participation in random drug testing of all non-DOT employees.
• Ability to work on the dock for extended hours in summer, fall, and winter.

Responsibilities

• Understand the function of the W&I within the Ward Trucking system.
• Assist the Dock supervisor in maintaining the weighing of freight.
• Establish and maintain effective communication with service center personnel.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Weights & Inspection.
• Act in a leadership role with other dockworkers both full-time and casual.
• Support all technologies and processes introduced by Ward to improve efficiencies, including adherence to training programs.
• Meet established productivity and revenue goals.
• Learn about hazardous materials and handle them safely in accordance with training received.
