About the position

As a Pharmacy Manager at Walgreens, you will oversee the operation of a pharmacy, ensuring that all aspects of pharmacy management are executed efficiently and effectively. Your role will involve providing pharmacy consulting services with empathy to patients, guiding them on the effective usage of medications, and raising awareness about potential drug interactions. In addition to managing the pharmacy's workflow, you will identify opportunities to enhance pharmacy financials and improve inventory management while also focusing on enhancing the patient experience. You will lead a team of pharmacy staff, ensuring their performance is managed effectively and that they are engaged and motivated. This includes overseeing their professional development through training, coaching, and performance management initiatives. Your responsibilities will also include engaging with patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services, resolving complaints, and addressing special needs promptly to ensure a positive patient experience. Furthermore, you will monitor customer service quality, develop improvement plans, and connect with patients by anticipating their needs and proactively offering services. As a Pharmacy Manager, you will supervise the pharmacy's operations, including managing shifts, delegating tasks, and scheduling team members. You will also oversee financial aspects such as register counts, bank withdrawals, and bookkeeping. Your role will require you to ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, maintain accurate records, and manage inventory trends effectively. You will also be responsible for ensuring the pharmacy grounds are clean and presentable, managing repairs and maintenance, and responding to emergencies. In addition, you will be involved in hiring, promoting, and terminating staff, addressing performance issues, and ensuring compliance with corporate policies and employment laws. You will communicate regularly with your team to foster an open environment and maintain current knowledge of required licensing and certifications to provide clinical services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the operation of a Walgreens Pharmacy.
  • Provide pharmacy consulting services to patients regarding medication usage and drug interactions.
  • Offer preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations and diagnostic testing.
  • Ensure proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications.
  • Manage pharmacy staff performance and ensure team member engagement.
  • Oversee training, coaching, and performance management initiatives for pharmacy staff.
  • Engage patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve patient complaints and respond to special needs in a timely manner.
  • Monitor customer service provided by team members and develop improvement plans.

  • Control pharmacy finances including register counts and bookkeeping.
  • Supervise merchandising and promotional space within the pharmacy.
  • Perform pharmacist tasks including compounding and medication management.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards.
  • Analyze inventory trends and manage inventory effectively.
  • Maintain knowledge of pharmacy systems and technology to support staff and patients.
  • Ensure accurate processing of insurance claims and follow up with providers.
  • Conduct clinical and wellness services such as immunizations and disease management.
  • Prepare and submit required records and reports as per regulations.
  • Manage team member performance and career progression.
  • Monitor and approve team member compensation and training completion.
  • Promote teamwork and motivate staff through clear expectations and communication.

Requirements

  • BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D Degree from an accredited educational institution.
  • Current pharmacist licensure in the states within the district.
  • Certified Immunizer or willing to become an immunizer within 90 days of hire.
  • 1 year pharmacy experience in a retail setting including prescription filling and verification.
  • Experience with pharmacy operations, software, and insurance compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal controlled substance laws.

Nice-to-haves

  • Supervisory experience in planning and directing pharmacy staff work.
  • An average rating of 3.7 or above on leadership behaviors on the last performance review (internal candidates only).
  • At least 6 months pharmacy experience with Walgreen Co.
